‘Doctor Europaeus’ qualification/ Dr European
INTRODUCTION
Art.1.
The Doctor Europaeus/Europaea/Dr European, hereinafter referred to as the European Doctorate, was proposed by the Confederation of European Union Rectors’ Conferences in 1991. Today, the confederation is called the European University Association. The European Doctorate is a qualification added to the doctorate in sciences. It grants the dimension of European recognition of the doctorate in compliance with the criteria established by GEPEA through this Decision. The purpose of the European Doctorate is to favor the recognition and to encourage the integration of doctoral graduates from the European Union in the international academic, cultural and socio-economic environment. The objective of GEPEA aims to consolidate the process of internationalization of doctoral programs and ensure the quality of university doctoral studies, based on supporting excellent research and the mobility of doctoral students. The European Doctorate is awarded and recognized by universities in the EU that have introduced this type of doctorate in compliance with the conditions of the European University Association.
EUROPEAN DOCTORATE CRITERIA
Art.2.
(1) The criteria for granting the European Doctorate Certificate are adopted by the Confederation proposal.
(2) The granting of the European Doctorate Certificate complies with the requirements:
– the doctoral student completed the 3-year doctoral program at GEPEA, then chose the European Doctorate route;
– the doctoral student spent at least three months in an EU university or research institution/ that means the PhD (doctoral) thesis must be the result of a period of work and research abroad lasting at least three months in an EU country. ;
– the thesis is written and defended in an international language;
– the agreement on public defense is based on the 2 reports
by external rapporteurs within the EU appointed by the Director of GEPEA College and proposed by the supervisor; the reports explicitly state that the thesis meets the conditions to receive European Doctorate recognition.
– at least one member of the committee for the public defense of the doctoral thesis will be from an EU university or research institute and may be one of the external rapporteurs.
INTEGRATION OF THE EUROPEAN DOCTORATE
Art.3.
(1) GEPEA’s own website includes all documents regarding the European Doctorate.
(2) GEPEA DOCTORAL COLLEGE IN CRAIOVA-ROMANIA introduces and monitors the European Doctorate at GEPEA.
(3) GEPEA supports international mobility for the European Doctorate at universities or research institutes recognized in the EU or in consortia.
Art.4.
Doctoral students who enroll in the European Doctorate route must fully comply with the principles and general requirements of the European Charter for Researchers throughout the doctoral program.
Art.5
(1) The mobility expenses of doctoral students for the European Doctorate are financially supported by each doctoral student or the Erasmus+ program.
(2) At the end of the internships spent in EU universities, the doctoral student will submit to the Doctoral College a mobility report approved by the internship supervisor.
(3) GEPEA financially supports the participation of the external member of the doctoral committee in the public defense of the doctoral thesis in the online system.
Art.6.
The file for the award of the European Doctorate Certificate will contain:
– the registration form
– the mobility reports abroad
– the reports prepared by the two external rapporteurs
– the minutes of the doctoral thesis defense session (the decision to confer the title of Doctor and the decision to grant the qualification Doctor Europaeus/Europaea).
Art.7.
(1) The Certificate for the European Doctorate is written in English and is issued by GEPEA after the award of the Doctor title and is signed by the Rector, the Director of the GDC and accompanies the Doctor Diploma.
(2) The Model Certificate for the European Doctorate is approved by the GEPEA Senate and will necessarily include the phrases European Doctorate (Doctor Europeaus/Europeae).
